PAT testing involves the individual testing of every portable appliance on a business premises.

On arriving at your site the PAT tester will discuss with you when offices and rooms are available, to ensure that there is minimum disruption to your working day.

The tester will move from room to room locating all electrical appliances. Each appliance will be unplugged, tested, and then plugged in again

Every appliance is given a thorough visual and integrity inspection:

  • the appliance case is visually checked for electrical integrity
  • the cable is inspected along its whole length for any signs of damage
  • the plug is inspected and the cover is removed so the wiring can be checked
  • the fuse is checked to ensure the correct rating is being used

On successful completion of the visual inspection the appliance is then connected to a Seaward PAT testing terminal. The Seaward terminal performs in-situ earth bond and touch current tests. It automatically logs the results to enable a comprehensive report to be generated.

If a damaged plug is found, the tester will rewire and if necessary provide a new fuse or plug.

Each appliance will be given a unique reference and confirmation of pass/fail.

When the tester has finished they will inform you of any problems that they have not been able to resolve.

Within a week you will be provided with a certificate and a report detailing every appliance that has been tested.
