The rules and regulations and codes of practice that are issued about portable appliance testing are confusing and often ambiguous and, as with all Health and Safety legislation these regulations may change at any time in the future.

We will ensure that you meet or all of your legal and insurance obligations with respect to portable appliances.

Health & Safety

According to the Health & Safety Executive 25% of all electrical accidents involve portable appliances.

All employers have a legal requirement to ensure that their electrical appliances are safe to use. Regular PAT testing is recommended by the Institute of Electrical Engineers as the best way of ensuring that you comply with electrical regulations.

We can advise on how the following acts and regulations apply to your business:

  • The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
  • The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
  • Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
  • IEE code of practice for Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment

Failure to comply with the regulations and the code of practice could leave your employees and customers exposed to electrical dangers.

Insurance Companies

Most insurance companies now require a PAT certificate for your insurance to be valid.

With any claim made against a business, PAT testing shows that the employer has taken reasonable steps to ensure the safety of the employees and customers on the premises.

We recommend that you check with your insurance company to confirm that your insurance cover is valid.
